We will be in-person again on the Eastern Shore on Friday, September 17th!

Structural integrity of buildings is a topic that is especially important in communities with mid to high rise buildings. Buildings that are located on the shore are subject to even more wearing from the elements than those more inland.

Our September 17th seminar will feature a diverse panel of speakers that includes:

The discussion will focus on the structural safety and maintenance of buildings, and the panel will review best practices to ensure associations and condominiums can maintain their buildings' structural integrity.

The goal of the seminar is to educate homeowners to understand:

The responsibilities of community managers and board members in maintaining the structural integrity of the residences to ensure the safety of the homeowners.
What should be included during an inspection and when engineers should "look behind the drywall".
The role of insurance in building upkeep if anything should happen.
The legal implications of board members and when you are obligated to take action.

Igor has more than 20 years in community management. His work is mainly focused on Risk & Insurance Management, compliance with applicable laws, and financial institutions’ underwriting requirements.

Igor has been involved with construction litigation cases as well as renovation projects costing millions of dollars.
Igor served as a panelist on Educations Seminars on FNMA/Freddie Mac guidelines for condominium financing; was on the Ocean City’s Task Force for Storm Water Management; was a guest speaker to the Advisory Council for one of the largest coastal condominium insurance programs, and served on the Ocean City Development Corporation for 12 years.

Igor obtained his Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) designation from Community Associations Institute in 2010.

Dean began his adjusting career in 2004, when he became a Multi Line Adjuster with Crawford & Company until 2006 where he specialized in general liability losses, truck accidents, cargo losses and homeowners property losses.

He continued as a Multi Line Adjuster with Sweet Claims Company for the next 6 years where he determined cause and origin of causation on first and third party claims including: Construction Defect, Products Liability, Motor Vehicle Accident including cargo losses, Property Loss (Commercial and Residential), and Liquor Liability.

He then became a General Adjuster for York Risk Services Group from 2012 to 2019 where he was responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of property claims which are the most complex in coverage and represent the company’s largest damage exposures.

Losses include Hospitality, Condominium, Apartment Complex, Commercial Risks, Large Industrial Properties, Churches, Retail Outlets, Inland Marine and Cargo, Builder’s Risk, Products Liability, Premises Liability, slip/trip and fall, DRAM Shop/Liquor Liability, and Business Interruption.

Dean was also heavily involved in the response to Superstorm Sandy as well as Hurricanes Irene, Irma, and Michael. He joined McLarens in 2019 as an Executive General Adjuster.

Mr. Hosking has more than 25 years-experience in the engineering and construction field.

His work involves the coordination of engineering projects from pre-design through construction and final acceptance. His practice includes an array of commercial development, repositioning, preservation and capital maintenance projects. In this role Mr. Hosking maintains a strong communication link between his clientele, his staff, design team and project engineers.

Prior to joining CSG Mr. Hosking served as a Vice President of The Allied Defense Group, Inc. where he ran the corporate strategy and merger and acquisition shop for this publicly traded holding company. Mr. Hosking held this position until finalizing the sales of each of the company’s globally distributed assets.

Prior to joining The Allied Defense Group Mr. Hosking worked for two different engineering and construction firms. His engineering and construction work included commercial development and infrastructure projects as well as industrial, power, and natural resources.

Ellen Throop has been representing Community Associations for over twenty-three years. Licensed in both Maryland and the District of Columbia, she represents condominiums, homeowners associations, and housing cooperatives. Mr. Toms is a Partner with Whiteford Taylor & Preston practicing in the areas of complex business litigation, community associations and business reorganization. He frequently handles litigation matters involving common interest communities, corporate governance, fiduciary duty and bankruptcy issues. Mr. Toms is licensed to practice law in Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland and is also a Certified Public Accountant, currently inactive.
